Lilamani Benson, Chairman and joint owner of Optima Designs, was the Founder/CEO of Lowe LDB Advertising Agency which she headed for some 23 years.
She is an experienced ad strategist and creative director and was personally responsible for creating intrusive positioning and utterly memorable communications campaigns that carved dominant market share for her clients’ brands.
Lilamani possesses a rare combination of skill and talent across the spectrum – writer, client relationship manager, brand builder, visualizer, conceptualist, film maker… and nowadays, painter.
She began her advertising career at Grants Group where she went on to simultaneously hold the post of Account Director and Creative Director of the Company’s star brand portfolio. Thereafter she took on the role of Creative Director at J Walter Thompson, one of the first multinationals to set up in Sri Lanka, where she progressed to Agency Head. Eventually she was approached by the Interpublic Group of New York to launch the Lowe Lintas brand in Sri Lanka to principally lead brand development and communications for its major Client Unilever.
Under her leadership the Lowe Lintas Ad Agency grew in leaps and bounds to become a highly successful and much awarded entity handling a wide spectrum of business and creating some unforgettable campaigns and top brands. Most significantly a great many talented young people grew in strength and stature under her mentoring and they remember their time with her at Lowe LDB with immense warmth and passion.
Nowadays Lilamani is retired from that business and pursues a more leisurely pace. She is currently lead strategic and creative consultant on select projects at Optima.
Lilamani has won an early Zonta Award for Advertising and in 2016 the ‘Inspirational Woman of the Year’ award presented by Women in Management and IFC.
